Mrs. Janet Leist (2023)
Kouyr Janet joined Homenetmen in Beirut in the early 1970’s as a girl scout. After relocating to San Francisco with her family in 1976, she joined the SF chapter as an athlete, playing basketball and proudly participating in the Navasartian games. As an adult, after having two daughters, Janet rejoined the chapter and signed her daughters up as athletes. In 2010, she joined the SF chapter Executive Committee where she served as Secretary through 2015. In 2013 the SF chapter established an online newsletter to improve communication with its members. Within a few months of its launch, Janet took over as Administrator and has been publishing it weekly for the past 11 years. Under her leadership, the newsletter expanded its reach to over 500 subscribers and added a ‘Community News and Events’ section, serving not only Homenetmen members but also the broader SF Bay Area Armenian community. Janet’s dedication to Homenetmen was inspired by her mother’s love for the organization from a young age as a girl scout in Aleppo, Syria. Janet, her husband and two daughters continue the family tradition and are committed to do their part so that their beloved Homenetmen not only survives well into the future but also thrives.
